
In that case, you may be able to clean it up and see if it works then. If you're lucky, perhaps a bit of tape or some other debris has jammed up one of the capstains. If there's been a mechanical failure, you're likely out of luck - cassette tape decks these days are getting rarer. Try turning the player on with the door open but no tape inside to see if anything even spins.

That said, if the player hasn't just had some sort of internal mechanical failure, I'd recommend opening it up and gently turning the tape capstains with your fingers to see if they'll move.
